Do you remember the story of Lotโs wife in the Bible? She really seemed to like Sodom and Gomorrah...
You would think that someone living in the most famous cities of sin in history would long for a chance to leave. In Genesis 19, sheโs locked inside a house while people from the city are actively trying to assault a couple of angels (and her husband offers up her daughters instead). Seems like somewhere most people wouldnโt want to be. Fortunately for her, those same angels led her on a path to freedom as the city was being destroyed from above. Seems like something everyone would want!
The only stipulation giver to her was that she couldnโt look back. She was so close to freedom! She was running from the city with her family intact, on to the safety provided to her by God. But she chose to turn around, and she was lost...
During Lent, weโve been going through a process of fasting for repentance. As you know by now, repentance is an act of stopping, turning around, and going the other way. Really, we could add a fourth step to this too: donโt look back...
God has rescued us, just like Lotโs wife. There is all manner of sin behind us once we repent, and itโs better that way. My prayer this week, is that God would continue pulling us to Him. That we would let go of our desires, and seek Him alone. Run from sin, and donโt look back. Thereโs nothing for you there anyway...
In Christ,
