Today is Palm Sunday! A day where we get to make a choice in our hearts. It’s a chance for us to look at the time when Jesus rode into Jerusalem as her triumphal King. He rode in peacefully, accepting the praise of the people. Matthew tells us, “And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!’”
So much praise! So much joy! So much celebration! It’s almost impossible to think that in just a few short days, this same Jesus would be marched through the same city as He carried His cross to be put to death. From blessed to cursed in almost no time flat.
Why did this happen? It’s simple: the mouths of the people of God didn’t match their hearts. This is a reason we’re experiencing Lent as well - to be sure we don’t make that same mistake. Today, we also hail Jesus as King, but is it something we will continue to believe all the way to the cross? Today, don’t just lay down a cloak or a palm at the feet of Jesus. Lay down your heart.
In Christ,
PD
